Duarigle Gaels `complete back to back u21 Football titles

Duarigle Gaels 2-11, Knocknagree 0-9

Duarigle Gaels retained their Central Stores, Kanturk Duhallow U21BFC title after coming from behind to better a gritty Knocknagree in a keenly contested replay at Kiskeam.

After plundering goals at vital stages, Duarigle never looked back, their experience and balance told in a competent team performance. Early on, the Gaels chased the game, Knocknagree dominating with Denis O’Connor and Micheál Doyle on target to jump 0-5 to 0-1 ahead.

Duarigle had squandered a host of chances but a productive spell saw Luke Murphy goal for a 1-4 to 0-6 advantage at the break. The Cullen and Millstreet combination received an immediate boost on the restart, Neil Flahive’s free landed in the Knocknagree net.

Duarigle’s game grew in stature, extending their position from points to Flahive and Colin O’Leary.

In terms of possession, Knocknagree enjoyed good spells on the ball but lacked penetration going forward and forced into rushed kicking from scoring positions by a well marshalled Duarigle rearguard.
