Duhallow 2-15 Clonakilty 0-12

A dominant opening half allowed Duhallow’s superior attacking power proved pivotal to overcoming Clonakilty in the Co. SFC quarter final at a damp Páirc Uí Rinn. As the opening spell developed, the divisional side emerged the more probable winners because of the manner in which they controlled possession to enjoy an interval eight point advantage.

Though Clon opened on a promising note, Duhallow favoured by the elements got the foothold on the proceedings, regularly posing problems for the Clon defence, rewarded on a goal, Fintan O’Connor centred for his brother Anthony to net. That score allowed Duhallow push on with a run of excellent points to assume a 1-8 to 0-3 advantage at the break. Clon had upped their intensity either side of the interval with Ross Mannix in fine shooting form from placed balls.

Duhallow reacted on a positive note, rewarded on a defence sweeping move for Aidan Walsh to drill low to the net. Thereafter, the contest dropped in tempo, Clon enjoyed more possession yet Duhallow substitute Ian Walsh made the most of his introduction to weigh in with three excellent points.

Next up for Duhallow is a semi final against Newcestown on Sunday, October 13.
