Knocknagree 2-10, Gabriel Rangers  1-11

ANOTHER silver chapter for Knocknagree  after staving off a fiery late Gabriel Rangers rally in a dramatic Co. IFC Final at Pairc Uí Rinn.  The Duhallow side’s cuteness typified by an ability to craft goals at defining times steered Knocknagree to victory.

In fairness, Gabriel Rangers came within touching distance of pulling the game out of the fire on reducing a nine point deficit to just two.  Indeed Knocknagree were thankful to ‘keeper Patrick Doyle on two brilliant penalty saves in either half.

Slow to start, Knocknagree got up and running after Eoghan McSweeney pointed back to back. Again Gabriels lifted their challenge to turn defence into attack, Doyle denying Mark Cronin from a spot kick.

Knocknagree picked up the pace, a sweeping move allowed McSweeney well positioned to net a neat goal and  a 1-7 to 0-4 advantage at the break. Gabriels attempted a response, Doyle came to his side’s rescue again to foil Eddie Goggin with a second penalty save.

A run of Knocknagree points preceeded a wonder goal from Anthony O’Connor. That helped secure a nine points advantage, Gabriels mounted a revival, boosted by a Goggin goal.

The concluding minutes were gripping, Gabriels went in search of a winner yet Knocknagree stood firm to claim championship silverware.
