Corofin (Clare) 1-14, Newmarket 0-11

NEWMARKET’S bid for progress in the AIB Munster IFC semi final bit the dust on incurring a defeat to Clare champions Corofin in Mallow. At times, Newmarket were favourably positioned but crucially when the game was in the melting pot, Corofin finished on the ascendency.

Little separated the sides in the opening half, Corofin shaded matters thanks to eager and enterprising play only for Newmarket to get the grips with the situation, Ryan O’Keeffe pointing for a 0-7 to 0-6 advantage at the interval.

And Newmarket were quickly off the mark on the restart with O’Keeffe on target to steer the Cork champions three ahead by the 40th min.  Corofin roared back into the game to force parity, Newmarket’s cause not helped on losing a man to a second yellow card.

Now Newmarket struggled, Corofin  availing of lead points from Robin Mousney and Gearoid Cahill before  a late goal in added time from Diarmuid Cahill rubberstamped a place in the decider against Kerry champions Na Gaeil.
